Caddo Parish, LA – March 18, 2025 – Longtime Caddo Parish Commissioner Ken Epperson, Sr. is taking a firm stand on issues he believes will directly impact veterans, federal employees, and the local economy. On Monday, March 17, the Caddo Parish Commission held a preliminary vote on three resolutions proposed by Epperson, each addressing pressing national concerns.
The three resolutions—Resolution 18 opposing mass firings of federal employees, Resolution 19 opposing cuts to national aid programs, and Resolution 20 opposing tariffs against trading partners—all passed their preliminary vote and will face a final vote on Thursday, March 20.
Epperson, who has served on the commission for almost 30 years and is a veteran of the Vietnam conflict, emphasized the importance of these measures, arguing that they are critical for veterans, federal workers, and recipients of Medicaid and Medicare. He also believes they will have a direct positive impact on the local economy by ensuring stability in federal employment, maintaining essential aid programs, and keeping trade relationships intact.
"These resolutions are about protecting the people of Caddo Parish and beyond," Epperson stated. "Mass federal layoffs, cuts to essential aid programs, and harmful tariffs could have devastating effects on our community. We need to stand up and make our voices heard." Epperson cites 2 Chronicles 20 as an inspiration for him to continue pushing for the rights of others.
As the final vote approaches, Epperson is urging residents to attend the March 20 commission meeting, stressing that a strong public presence in the gallery could help sway the decision.
The Caddo Parish Commission will convene at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, where the fate of these resolutions will be decided.
