Nurse Practitioner Jaschandria Bell, PHMNP-BC, FNP-C
A Trailblazer in Healthcare and Mental Health Advocacy

by Dr. DeeDee Reese

Jaschandria Bell, a multi-health nurse practitioner and family nurse practitioner, has dedicated her career to bridging the gap between medical and mental healthcare. A native of Tallulah, Louisiana, and a proud graduate of Grambling State University, Bell’s journey from certified nursing assistant (CNA) to an esteemed healthcare professional is one of perseverance, dedication, and service.

Raised predominantly by her grandparents, Bell was introduced early to the importance of caregiving. Her mother served as the primary caretaker for elderly family members, instilling in her the values of service and compassion. These formative experiences shaped her commitment to healthcare, leading her to pursue a nursing degree at Grambling State University.

During her early career, Bell worked as a CNA while completing her studies, gaining firsthand experience in patient care. This background gave her a unique perspective as she advanced in her career, fostering a deep respect for all levels of healthcare professionals. "Starting in the trenches gave me insight like never before," Bell recalls. "It taught me humility and the importance of teamwork in patient care."

Bell’s path to becoming a registered nurse was not without obstacles. Facing academic and licensing challenges, she demonstrated remarkable resilience, retaking courses and state board exams multiple times before obtaining her RN license in 2006. Rather than being discouraged, she viewed these hurdles as opportunities for growth. “Every trial was a stepping stone to elevate me,” she reflects.

Her grandfather’s wisdom guided her through these moments: "Get all the education you can because that is one thing no one can take from you." True to this advice, Bell continuously sought further education and professional development, eventually earning her credentials as a nurse practitioner.

While working as a family nurse practitioner at various healthcare facilities, Bell recognized a glaring gap in mental health services. Many of her patients suffered from mental health conditions but faced prolonged wait times for psychiatric care. Motivated by a desire to provide comprehensive, integrated care, she pursued additional certification as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner.

Bell eventually established A Beautiful Mind Consultants, LLC, a private mental health practice based in Shreveport, Louisiana. Her practice primarily serves military personnel, first responders, and African American communities, aiming to break the stigma surrounding mental health. “In our culture, seeking mental health care has often been taboo,” Bell explains. “My goal is to change that narrative by providing a safe and supportive environment.”

As a dedicated healthcare professional, Bell understands the challenges of maintaining a work-life balance. Recognizing the importance of self-care, she prioritizes her faith, family, and personal well-being. She has also taken strategic steps to manage her workload, hiring support staff and setting firm boundaries to prevent burnout. Additionally, Bell practices what she preaches—seeking therapy herself to maintain mental wellness. “Every therapist should have a therapist,” she states. “I can only give my best to my patients if I take care of myself first.”

Through her work, Bell continues to champion accessible and culturally competent mental health care. Her dedication extends beyond her private practice—she serves as a mentor, speaker, and advocate for mental health awareness, particularly within African American and veteran communities.

Located at 2924 Knight Street, Suite 412, Shreveport, LA, A Beautiful Mind Consultants offers both in-person and secure telehealth appointments to accommodate clients' privacy needs. Bell’s mission remains clear: to serve her community with compassion and excellence.
