Tomi Gran Entertainment LLC

Tomi Gran's dedication to his craft and community has solidified his reputation as a versatile and accomplished professional in the entertainment industry.

Early Beginnings:
Tommy Gran (or Granville) began his career as a music producer at around age 20, in the early 1990s. Influenced by watching music videos on channels like MTV and BET, he noticed a lack of Southern representation in the music industry. This observation was cemented when he saw the video for “Mind Playing Tricks on Me” by the Ghetto Boys, a group from Houston, which sparked his ambition.

Breaking Into the Industry:
Back then, he stated, aspiring artists would send demo tapes to major hubs like New York and Los Angeles. Tommy faced criticism for his thick Southern accent, something he couldn’t change because it was part of his identity. Instead of letting this discourage him, he viewed the absence of a strong Southern music industry as an opportunity. He took matters into his own hands by “jumping over the fence” of traditional gatekeepers—driving around to meet people, hustling for his break, and eventually landing his first big opportunity with Rap-A-Lot records.

Expanding Into Film and Beyond:
Although music was his first passion, Tommy also pursued film production. His talents extend to sound engineering, film composition, and post-production audio. While his natural gift in music drove him forward, he also sought formal learning. Tommy’s determination saw him take alternative educational paths before ultimately succeeding in what he loved.

Words of Advice:
Tommy’s advice for young, aspiring artists and producers is threefold:
• Seek Unbiased Feedback: Test your work outside your immediate circle. In his early days, Tommy would play his demos in record stores to gauge genuine public reaction.
• Step Out of Your Comfort Zone: Identify the markets where your music resonates—even if it means touring in unexpected places. He noted that while some regions might not embrace your sound, other areas (or even international audiences) might.
• Collaborate and Build Your Circle: Surround yourself with individuals who are advancing in the industry. He stressed that a network of like-minded, successful peers is far more valuable than one that limits your growth.
Tomi Granville has an extensive career in the entertainment industry and shows a remarkable range of talents and contributions across music, film, and television.
